Radium Development Berhad Empowering the Next Generation Through Support of Shelter Home for Children

KUALA LUMPUR, Wednesday, 25 October 2023 — Radium Development Berhad (“Radium” or the “Company”), a Kuala Lumpur-centric property developer, has recently completed a series of improvements to enhance the living conditions of Shelter Home for Children’s (“Shelter Home”) residence at Taman Overseas Union Garden (“Taman OUG”). The initiative reflects Radium’s commitment to corporate social responsibility (“CSR”) and its dedication to making a positive impact in the community.

The upgrading works, with an estimated value of RM40,000, took about 15 volunteers approximately a month to complete. It involved several improvements, such as levelling and installing a concrete floor in the 1,200 square foot car porch area; repairing ground floor window grilles and adding new mosquito nettings; installing new door frames in the indoor kitchen counter and sink area; installing a lockable grille door in the outdoor kitchen counter, where cooking is done; and patching up a section of an interior wall that was previously exposed brick.

Radium Development Berhad Group Managing Director Datuk Gary Gan Kah Siong said: “This CSR initiative aligns with our ethos ‘Building Good’, which goes beyond the construction of physical structures to bettering lives. After our first engagement with Shelter Home in February 2023, where we made a monetary contribution and donated two sofas, we realised that there is more that we could do to assist the young residents at its Taman OUG residence.”

“We wanted to help make a more comfortable living space at Shelter Home OUG as when the children here have a conducive environment at home, they can better focus on their studies and their personal well-being. This is why we enlisted the expertise of our business associates, Evermix Concrete Sdn Bhd and MCF Sdn Bhd, to help with the home’s upgrades,” added Datuk Gary Gan Kah Siong.

Shelter Home for Children (OUG) General Manager Mr Chris Fan said: “Established in 1981, Shelter Home is a registered welfare organisation dedicated to providing a safe haven for abused and neglected children. We help them to overcome their initial trauma and restore their self-acceptance, dignity and trust in humanity by offering them unconditional love, care, and education, so they can become responsible members of society. As a charitable organisation, we are dependent on the goodwill of the public to support our mission.”

“We are grateful for corporate partners such as Radium, whose kindness and generosity have allowed us to create a more comfortable space for the children in our care at our OUG home. On this note, we would also like to add that we always welcome donations and partnerships to help us in the work that we do,” added Mr Chris Fan.

“As a homegrown business entity, we recognise that we have the potential and responsibility towards the betterment of our society. Through our CSR efforts, we hope to play an active role in creating a better world for our future generations. Our next outreach effort will be with our own Zoo Negara, supporting its work in animal conservation,” added Datuk Gary Gan Kah Siong.
